TCM Indications & diagnostics

Four classical methods of diagnosis

In TCM, both sick and healthy people are considered and treated from both holistic and energetic points of view.

All energetic disturbances should be detected as early as possible to prevent disease.

TCM has developed a versatile diagnostic approach over the millennia.

The two cornerstones of diagnosis are tongue and pulse diagnosis.

By closely observing the shape, colour and quality of the tongue and by feeling and perceiving the 28 different qualities of pulse, the therapist or doctor is able draw conclusions about the inner processes of the body.

These diagnostic procedures are supplemented by information that can be obtained from questioning and observing patients.

Through the combination of these four classical methods of diagnosis, doctors and therapists in Chinese medicine acquire a picture of the disharmony (physical and/or psychological) to be corrected by the therapy.
